Protecting the Environment or Regulation Overload?

Estes Express Lines has been fined nearly $400,000 for violating federal and state (California) emissions regulations. In our business, our tools of the trade (our tractors) can be some of the biggest pollution emitters out there. It is a certainty that our services are needed by the population. But it is also a certainty that we need to work towards cleaner opperations.

Have the state and federal government gone too far or are these emissions regulations really helping our environment? One thing is for certain, if we want to be embraced by a population that needs us but is moving towards environmental protectionism, we (as an industry) need to be ahead of the curve and not constantly in the news for failing to meet these environmental regulations (i.e. Estes and Volkswagen).
